If you're on Week 36 of your pregnancy, it's a REALLY good idea to have your bags ready!

Many new parents overpack because they don't know what their hospital will provide. Tip: Call them in advance/ take a tour to find out what you will get.

Mom Essentials

ID, insurance card, hospital paperwork + folder

2x comfortable PJs / 1x nursing robe / optional: nursing gown

Toiletries: Toothbrush, Toothpaste, Face wash, shampoo, deodorant, makeup &makeup remover

Optional: Own pillow + pillowcase, Eye mask, Ear plugs

Optional for Perineal recovery: peri bottle, pads with witch hazel, healing foam

Playlist with meaningful songs/ Journal

Supporting person 

ID

2-3X change of clothes (depending on delivery method) / 1x PJ

Toiletries

Optional: Snacks + drinks

Optional: Own pillow + pillowcase

Optional: Headphones + Tablet + Camera

Hospital should provide:

Mom:

​

  • Hospital gown (for labor and postpartum)

  • Non-slip socks

  • Mesh underwear (disposable, stretchy)

  • Perineal recovery: Maxi pads (hospital-grade, very thick), Peri bottle (for rinsing after using the bathroom), Ice packs / cooling packs (for perineal swelling), Witch hazel pads , Dermoplast spray or numbing spray (some hospitals), Basic pain meds (ibuprofen, acetaminophen, sometimes stronger if needed), Stool softener (if prescribed)

  • Basic toiletries (tiny soap/shampoo, but usually very basic)

  • Water jug / cup with straw

  • Breastfeeding support: Access to a lactation consultant

  • Hospital breast pump (if medically needed)

  • Cream or nipple ointment (sometimes) -if you want your own Organic Nipple Butter

  • All meals for mom + support person

Baby:

 

  • ​Diapers (newborn size), Wipes (or cloth + water, depending on hospital)

  • Onesies or baby shirts (while in hospital)

  • Receiving blankets, Baby hat,

  • Bulb syringe (for clearing mucus),

  • Formula + bottles (if needed / chosen),

  • Breastfeeding support (lactation consultant will also help with baby latch),

  • First medical checks: Newborn screening tests, Hearing test, Vitamin K shot, Eye ointment, Hepatitis B vaccine, etc
